Optimizing Seed Planning for a Flourishing 2025 Flower Season

As a growing flower farmer, every season is a new opportunity to learn, refine, and improve. With each passing year, I discover more about what works best for my farm, and 2025 is no exception.

This year, I’m taking a more intentional approach to seed planning by expanding my seed inventory tracking and fine-tuning my sowing schedule. My goal is to make well-informed decisions about when and how to start seeds, setting my flowers up for success from the very beginning.

Streamlining My Seed Inventory

I started by enhancing my existing seed inventory spreadsheet, adding more details to ensure I capture everything I need to know at a glance. From there, I categorized my seeds by type—annuals, hardy annuals, perennials, tender perennials, and biennials. Next, I organized them by their optimal sowing dates and plant height expectations. (See photos below!)

Taking the time to map everything out made a huge difference. Once my spreadsheet was updated, I transferred the key sowing dates onto my calendar, creating a visual roadmap for the season ahead. This small yet impactful step ensures I stay on track and never miss a crucial planting window.

Rethinking Seed Storage

In addition to refining my planning process, I also made changes to how I store my seeds. Originally, I used tic-tac containers neatly arranged in clear boxes. While this system kept things tidy, I realized it had one major drawback—I was missing out on the valuable planting tips and growing information included on seed packets.

Interestingly, I recently received some seeds from a company that doesn’t include printed details on their packets at all! Instead, they provide a QR code linking to their website for growing instructions. While this is a modern and space-saving approach, I still appreciate having quick, tangible access to planting details without needing to look them up online.

Embracing Growth & Change

Farming is an ever-evolving journey, and each year brings new insights and improvements. By refining my seed planning process and storage methods, I’m setting myself up for a more organized and efficient growing season in 2025.

I’d love to hear from fellow flower farmers—how do you organize your seed inventory and sowing schedule? Have you discovered any game-changing storage solutions? Let’s grow together!
